(Click here to get a glimpse of what I do with Katie on Saturdays)
And we have to be creative to get the kids attention.
Recently, instead of reading the usual Bible stories (which all the church kids knew off heart Daniel and the lion or Jonah inside a fish for 3 days), Katie and I decided it's more fun and attention grabbing to make up a Bible-themed story and incorporate the drawing lesson of the day.
It's my turn this week to write a story based on the lesson: a bunny.
And here's what I wrote
Story of the Bunny with no self-control
Kenny is a bunny.
Kenny is four.
Kenny like sweet carrot and veggies.
And Kenny will eat them all!
When Kenny went to a Christmas party.
When Kenny saw all those veggies.
When his parents told Kenny “Don’t eat too much or you’ll hurt your tummy”
Kenny ate everything and scared his granny!
Now Kenny’s stomach is full.
Now Kenny’s parents are worried.
Now Kenny’s feeling green and blue.
Kenny needs to goto the bathroom in a hurry!
The fruit of the Spirit has self-control.
The Bible tells us so.
The story of Kenny reminds us young and old.
That self-control keep us out of trouble!
... no I wasn't "smoking" anything, but I had a weird Dr. Seuss moment for about half an hour when I wrote this.
I have never written anything that rhymes since grade 4 and probably will never again. I don't think I'll actually tell this version of the story to the kids, so I'm taking this opportunity to archive this on the internet.
Thank you.
